Sustainable textiles

Bex (2012) states that the definition of sustainable textiles is “processes and produces which meet the needs of today’s society, without compromising resources of the needs of future generations.” Therefore, most fashion designers always show their sustainable works through the exhibitions. However, sometimes their works contain some materials which are not sustainable. As a result, in this article will introduce some sustainable fabrics which people usually consider these are worth for the environment in the society.

Organic cotton

The natural cotton has much pollution which will damage people health and the environment in the world, especially in the developing countries. N. D. (2014) points out that organic cotton can reduce variety pollutions and provide the customers some data about the effects of the each fabric. The companies can promise this organic cotton does not have different pesticide to pollute the water when they irrigate the plants.

Hemp

Hemp is the better materials than the cotton because these fabrics can recycle for several times. Then the farmers do not use the pesticide, such as DDT, because no worm or insect will injure them and only needs a little bit water during the growing. It means this material does not cause more pollution for the environment. (Bex, 2012)

Recycle polyester

According to N. D. (2014) demonstrates that the clothes which made from recycle polyester can 100% recycle. Therefore, this new material hit the market and a lot of companies re-use the fabrics to make the new merchandise or repair the goods when they broke.

Seacell

From Bex’s (2012) article describes that this is the new fiber which the ideal materials to make the sportswear and underwear because it can decompose from the sea and do not damage the wild animals and people body.

Bamboo

Bamboo does not need the many places when the farmers grow them up. It also does not require the pesticide, other chemicals and heavy metals during the growing. It implies that this kind of fabrics do not have any pollution, such as water and soil. (Bex, 2012)

As a result, some designers and companies try to use different sustainable textiles to create their work. For example, Elena Garcia and Stamo use the sustainable fabrics to produce the clothes to display in the fashion show and exhibitions. After that, they try to gain the cooperation with organizations, social enterprises, companies and media and promote to protect the environment.

In the conclusion from the data, the designers should select the new sustainable materials when they think to manufacture the new costumes. Moreover, they also can re-use the fabrics to produce the dress or repair them in the fashion show or some exhibitions. Finally, the government can encourage the farmers’ plant more and more sustainable plants to instead of some natural materials which will pollute the environment and hurt everybody’s health.
